Can I Read Calibrated Data Values from My R Series Card?

I have an R Series Multifunction RIO and want to read calibrated data in meaningful engineering units rather than uncalibrated raw integer ADC values. Is this possible?

The availability of this functionality is dependent on the specific R Series Multifunction RIO device you are using. The following devices support the selection of either calibrated or raw data:
  • PXIe-7846R
  • PXIe-7847R
  • PXIe-7856R
  • PXIe-7857R
  • PXIe-7858R
  • USB-7845R
  • USB-7845R OEM
  • USB-7846R
  • USB-7846R OEM
  • USB-7855R
  • USB-7855R OEM
  • USB-7856R
  • USB-7856R OEM
To switch between calibrated and uncalibrated data on these devices:
  1. Right-click on the device in your LabVIEW FPGA Project and choose Change I/O Configuration... from the context menu.

    Note: This option will not exist if your device does not support changing between calibrated and uncalibrated values. 

  2. From the AI/AO Data Type drop down menu, select the format you want your data in: Calibrated or Raw.

  3. Click OK and save your project to apply the settings.
Currently, it is not possible to read calibrated data from older R Series Multifunction RIO devices not found on the above list. They can read only raw, uncalibrated data values. However, it is possible to convert the uncalibrated integer values to Fixed Point representation in LabVIEW FPGA if necessary. This is outlined in more detail in KnowledgeBase 4X4J3EMO: How Do I Convert A Raw Value To Fixed-Point In FPGA?

The CompactRIO and Single-Board RIO platforms do fully support returning calibrated fixed-point values. All Analog Input C Series modules return fixed-point calibrated values by default using NI-RIO 2.4 or later.
