Can I Use NI-OPC Servers to Connect to a ControlLogix 5000 System?

Primary Software: LabVIEW Modules>>DSC Module
Primary Software Version: 8.5
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem:
I have a PLC that is a ControlLogix 5000. I am trying to connect to it using NI-OPC Servers but I cannot see it in the device list. Do I have to use an alternative method to connect to this system?

Solution:
You cannot connect to a ControlLogix 5000 System using NI-OPC Servers as it is not supported. You can use the RSLinx server instead to connect to the ControlLogix system and then program it using the LabVIEW Datalogging & Supervisory Control (DSC) module. A more detailed account of how to use the RSLinx Server is given in the Developer Zone Tutorial: Using RSLinx OPC Server. Alternatively, you can also use Lookout, offered by National Instruments to configure the ControlLogix 5000 PLC.

Note: The ControlLogix 5500 series of controlers is supported by the NI-OPC Server.  For a list of supported PLCs, refere to the Developer Zone Tutorial: Supported Device & Driver Plug-in List for NI-OPC Server.
