Voltage Level on SCC-SGxx Excitation Source Drops when a Second Strain Gage is Attached

Hardware: SCC>>Modules>>SCC-SG01, SCC>>Modules>>SCC-SG02, SCC>>Modules>>SCC-SG03, SCC>>Modules>>SCC-SG04, SCC>>Modules>>SCC-SG24

Problem: When I attach a second strain gage to the SCC-SGxx module, the excitation source drops in voltage. What can I do?

Solution: This is expected, and in order to avoid any error associated with the voltage drop, a shunt calibration should be performed. A shunt calibration requires a separate shunt cal module (SCC-SG11). Also, doing a software remote sense to compensate for the voltage level would work to account for this error. A software remote sense is performed by reading the voltage on a separate analog input channel and using the resulting reading to scale the strain gage.

Despite the voltage drop associated with the load tolerance, the source should stay within the plus or minus .4% accuracy specification.
