Table Browser Utility Gives Connection Error with Some Applications

Primary Software: LabWindows/CVI Add-ons>>Enterprise Connectivity Toolset
Primary Software Version: 1.1
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem: I am using the Table Browser Utility with the LabWindows/CVI SQL Toolkit, and I'm receiving a connection error when attempting to connect to some applications. Why is this happening?

Solution: The Table Browser returns connection errors because there are not established Data Source Names (DSNs). This would include specific files like *.mdb, *.xls, etc. for those applications. In order to resolve the connection problems, take the following steps:
  1. For Windows NT or 2000, go to Start » Settings » Control Panel » Administrative Tools » Data Sources (ODBC). For Windows 95, 98, or Me, go to Start » Settings » Control Panel » ODBC Data Sources (32bit).
  2. Under the "User DSN" tab select the data source application that you want to use and click the "Configure" button.
  3. In the "ODBC Setup" window click the "Select" button, then navigate to the databases you want to use.
  4. Once you have added your databases, click "OK" to close all the windows. You should now be able to run the Table Browser on that application.
Note: You may want to double-check that the item you are trying to browse is actually a table. As an example, all of the items that show up in the list for Microsoft Access's example Northwind database are not really tables. "Invoices" and "Customers" come up fine, for example, but some of the other items result in the connection error messages because they are not really tables.
