Connecting to Ethernet Targets with Multiple Networks Cards in the Host

Hardware: Compact FieldPoint>>Controllers, CompactRIO>>Controllers, PXI/CompactPCI>>Controllers, Image Acquisition (IMAQ)>>Compact Vision System

Problem:
I am trying to connect to a Real-Time system. It might be a PXI Chassis, cRIO, Compact FieldPoint, or Desktop ETS. In my host computer I have multiple Ethernet cards. I cannot connect to the Real-Time target. What could be the problem?

Solution:
National Instruments software uses the system default network card to connect to Real-Time devices and other targets. If you have multiple network adapters it is possible that you are connecting to your target with the secondary network adapter. You must either:

  1. Connect your device to the default Ethernet card.

  2. Change the Ethernet port connected to the Real-Time target to default.
    •  Navigate to Control Panel»Network Connections»Advanced» Advanced settings...

    • Press the Up and Down arrow to rearrange the adapters.  Move the RT connection to the top of the list to make it default.  Click OK to apply the changes.
