After I Create a Disconnected License from NI Volume License Manager, How Do I Use It?
Primary Software: Other NI Software>>NI Volume License Manager
Primary Software Version: 2.1.1
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A
Problem: I have created a disconnected license from NI Volume License Manager (VLM). How do I use the disconnected license to allow the end user use it to activate and use the applicable software?
Solution: After you have created a disconnected license, follow these two steps:
- Move the disconnected license file to the target (end-user's) computer
- Install the license file on the target machine.
Moving the Disconnected License File:
You have two options for moving your disconnected license file from the server to the target machine.
- Manually copy over the file. You can do this by attaching it to an email, sharing it over a network, or copying it to a portable storage device like a USB drive.
- If you use NI VLM 2.1.1 or higher, then you can choose to email the disconnected license file to the end user by choosing the Email to end users option as the following screenshot illustrates.

Installing the License File:
In order to install the license file, open NI License Manager on the target machine by going to Start » Programs » National Instruments » NI License Manager. Then perform one of these two steps:
- Drag and drop the license file onto the NI License Manager window
- Go to Options»Install License File and browse to the license file.
