Error -5009: 0x8002802b When Installing Multisim or Ultiboard

I was starting the software installation from the CD and suddenly the installer crashed with a Windows® dialog box saying:

An error (-5009 : 0x8002802b) has occurred while running the setup.

How can I fix this?

These type of errors are Windows®-generated and are not related to the CD or Software itself. They are usually caused by the installer's InstallShield® Wizard, which many companies use as their installer technology. Also, they are difficult to track down since they are not common to any operating system setup. That means they are very specific to a Windows® setup that your computer may have.

In many cases it is related to left-over files that were not deleted or were modified by previous installations of software programs.

The best place to look for support for this error is the InstallShield® Support website and type in the error number, many documents will appear explaining reasons, workarounds, solutions, tricks, etc. For this error in particular the best recommendations found were:

  • Deleting the folder:  
    <Install Drive:>\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Professional

  • Or, rename -to something else- the file:
    <Install Drive:>\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Professional\Runtime\ISProBE.tlb

Please be aware that these recommendations are not guaranteed to work since they refer to an installer technology that does not belongs to National Instruments.
