Why Am I Seeing Interference or Delays With My WLS-6193?

Hardware: Multifunction DAQ (MIO)>>Wireless DAQ>>WLS-9163

Problem:
I am seeing delays or interference on the connection to my WLS-9163. Why is this and how can I fix it?

Solution:
Radio Frequency (RF) interference occurs when an errant signal is operating on the same frequency that your 802.11 Wi-Fi network uses.  For networks compatable with the WLS 9163, this is 2.4 GHz. Any extraneous noise at this frequency pollutes the signal and can lead to network transmission delays or failures.

RF interference can originate from many sources. A list of common sources is provided below, but it is by no means comprehensive:

  • Cordless phones that transmit in the 2.4 GHz band.
  • Microwave ovens in close proximity to either the Wi-Fi access point or the WLS-9163.
  • Bluetooth or Wi-Fi capable laptops, PDAs, or Smart Phones near the WLS-9163 when the Wi-Fi signal is weak.
  • Other Wi-Fi networks broadcasting on the same channel as your Wi-Fi network.
There are several ways to limit RF interference:
  • Eliminate the sources of RF interference listed above.
  • Use up-to-date 802.11 Wi-Fi equipment to ensure proper signal strength for the WLS-9163.
  • Use a sufficient number of Wi-Fi access points to ensure good Wi-Fi coverage.
  • Set your WLS-9163 and your Wi-Fi network to use channels 1, 6, or 11.
