Error -61024 from Open FPGA VI Reference VI

Primary Software: LabVIEW Modules>>FPGA Module
Primary Software Version: 1.1
Primary Software Fixed Version: 1.1
Secondary Software: Driver Software>>NI-RIO
Hardware: Reconfigurable I/O (RIO)

Problem: My host VI returns error -61024 from the Open FPGA VI Reference node. Why is this happening?

Solution: This is most likely due to a version conflict between your RIO and VISA drivers. If you have VISA 3.3 you must have RIO 1.3 or later. You can determine your driver version in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX). If you have RIO 1.2 or earlier you will not see NI-RIO in MAX and you must upgarde to RIO 1.3.

After trying the above steps, you still get the same error, try the following troubleshooting steps:
  • Build a blank new host VI. Place an Open FPGA VI Reference node. Right-click on it and make sure External VISA Input is selected. Now create a constant at this input terminal and select the appropriate VISA resource. Finally, place a Close FPGA VI Reference function and wire it properly. If this works then do the next step.
  • Open your original host VI and delete the Open FPGA VI Reference node and all connected inputs to that node. Re-create this node exactly as described above.
Using the External VISA Input is probably the most important step. Also, re-creating the Open FPGA VI Reference node allows the VI to recompile, in a sense.
