Error When Opening Help File: The page cannot be displayed

Problem: I am trying to view a help file provided by National Instruments, but when I try to open any of the topics on the left side of the screen I see an error stating that "The page cannot be displayed." How can I view the contents of my help file?

Solution: Security features in Windows XP Service Pack 2 may prevent you from viewing the contents of compiled help files (CHM Files). To view the contents of your help file, follow the steps below:


  1. If the help file is located on a network drive, copy it to your local computer. Windows security settings will prevent the help file from opening if it is stored on a network drive.

  2. Double click on the help file to open it.

  3. When the security warning is displayed, clear the "Always ask before opening this file" checkbox.

  4. Click OK and the help file will open properly.
