How Do I Use Files From EWB, Ulticap and Ultiboard 5 in Newer Multisim and Ultiboard?

Primary Software: Electronics Workbench>>Multisim
Primary Software Version: 10.0.1
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: Electronics Workbench>>Ulticap

Problem:

I would like to take files from EWB 5, Ulticap 5 and Ultiboard 5 and open them in new versions of Multisim or Ultiboard.

How can I do this?

Solution:

Opening legacy files in newer versions has been supported over the years by Electronics Workbench and National Instruments.

Here are a couple of guidelines you can follow to understand how you can open legacy files:

  • EWB 5 files in the .ewb format can be opened directly with Multisim and Multicap.
  • Ulticap 5 (schematic capture) files in the .utsch format can be opened directly with Multisim and Multicap. Older files created in the MS-DOS® .sch format have to be opened first in Ulticap 5 and saved in the newer data format .utsch. Then you can open them in newer versions.
  • Ultiboard 4 & 5 files in the design .ddf format and libraries .l55 format can be opened directly in Ultiboard. Older files created in the MS-DOS® have to be opened first in Ultiboard 5 and saved in one of the supported formats.

Note: Ulticap and Ultiboard 5 were packages made by a company called Ultimate Technologies®. Interactive Image Technologies® -the creators of Electronics Workbench- acquired those products to convert them into Ultiboard and Multicap. National Instruments worked towards integrating all products into two major applications, Multisim and Ultiboard.
