Built In Serial COM Ports Do Not Require NI-SerialHardware: PXI/CompactPCI>>Controllers
Problem: I found the NI-Serial driver on the Drives and Updates page of www.ni.com. Do I need this driver to use my computer's serial ports? Solution: No, the NI-Serial driver is a specifically designed driver for National Instruments serial hardware products. The only driver needed for using built-in serial COM ports is NI-VISA. Note: When running a Real-Time operating system, NI-Serial is required in order to see the built in COM ports on the controller or target PC.
