Issue Details

  • When I attempt to read or configure transducer electronic data sheets (TEDS) for the sensors connected to my NI dynamic signal acquisition (DSA) device it can take anywhere from a couple of seconds to several minutes.
  • Why does it sometimes take an extended period of time to configure my TEDS sensors, and how can I reduce the amount of time that is required?

Solution

The fluctuation in the amount of time required to configure TEDS sensors is dependent on two factors:

Factor 1: The Number of Channels TEDS Sensors are Being Configured On
  • NI DSA devices perform TEDS configuration serially, and it requires a set base amount of time to configure a TEDS sensor on a single channel.
  • As a result the total time it will take to configure your TEDS sensors is the number of channels or TEDS sensors being configured multiplied by the base amount of time required for a single sensor.
Factor 2: Whether the Internal Excitation of the Device is Enabled
  • If the internal excitation of the device is enabled the base time required to figure TEDS increases significantly.
  • When attempting to configure TEDS in this scenario, the excitation is first turned off to read the TEDS and then turned back on to put the device configuration back into its previous state.
  • To reduce time to configure TEDS sensors, turn the device excitation off.
