"Warning KERNEL 346520" When Trying to Load LabVIEW Real Time ETS in my PC or PXI Controller

Primary Software: LabVIEW Modules>>Real-Time Module
Primary Software Version: 7.1
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem: When I try to use LabVIEW Real-Time ETS with my PXI or PC, I get this error:

Warning KERNEL 346520: Error initializing IDE drive c:

What is wrong?

Solution: LabVIEW Real-Time will only work with hard drives that have been formatted with FAT16 and FAT32 file systems. So here we have two possible problems, when the Hard Disk is not FAT32 and when it is already FAT32 but still cannot be recognized. If the primary hard drive partition on your PXI controller is formatted using the NTFS file system and you wish to use LabVIEW RT, you will need to reformat your hard drive to one of these file systems.

To reformat, do the following (the following steps refer to Windows 98):
  1. Create a Windows 98 startup disk. (Start»Settings»Control Panel»Add/Remove Programs»Startup Disk»Create Disk.)
  2. Boot PXI controller on Windows 98 startup disk.
  3. WARNING: THE FOLLOWING STEPS WILL CAUSE YOU TO LOOSE ALL DATA STORED ON THE HARD DRIVE. Use fdisk to repartition hard drive, say yes to large disk support if installing Windows 98, say no if installing Windows NT (this assumes you will boot into RT using a boot floppy. Say yes if you are only installing the RT Engine. Saying yes to large disk support causes the format to be FAT32, and NT cannot be installed on FAT32, but can be installed on FAT16.
  4. Format c: by using the format utility.
  5. Install your operating system, or the RT Engine. Refer to the link(s) below.

If your hard drive is already FAT32 make sure that if you have multiple partitions, the FAT32 one is the first one. Another thing to check is to make sure that the hard disk is the master of the IDE bus. Sometimes CD or DVD drives are the masters so you would need to change it so that the HD is the master.
