Using SignalExpress to Log Data from a Real-Time TargetPrimary Software: LabVIEW Signal Express>>Development SystemPrimary Software Version: N/A Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A Secondary Software: N/A
Problem: I have a Compact FieldPoint or CompactRIO Real-Time system configured to obtain measurements, and I am looking to log this information using SignalExpress. Is it possible to log data from a Real-Time target using LabVIEW SignalExpress? Solution: There is no way to interface Signal Express directly with a Real-Time system. However, it is possible to do this indirectly using the Full Edition of LabVIEW SignalExpress. The strategy for logging from a cFP or cRIO is to create a program that will publish the information to the network by writing the data to Shared Variables. Once the data is published, a computer connected to that network and using SignalExpress can read the Shared Variable data. The data can then be logged as normal within another step in SignalExpress. The cFP 2100 series, as well as the CompactRIO, can publish shared variables very comfortably and are recommended for this purpose. While the cFP 2010 and 2020 can be used to publish shared variables, this will leave very little memory for other operations. Note: SignalExpress LE does not contain the functionality to read from Shared Variables, thus LabVIEW SignalExpress Full Edition is required to log information from a Real-Time target.
