Why Does My WSN Firmware Update Stall?

Primary Software: Driver Software>>NI-WSN
Primary Software Version: 1.0
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A
Hardware: Wireless Sensor Network>>WSN Ethernet Gateway>>NI WSN-9791, Wireless Sensor Network>>WSN Nodes>>NI WSN-3212, Wireless Sensor Network>>WSN Nodes>>NI WSN-3202

Problem:
I am attempting to upload new firmware to my entire wireless sensor network.  However, during the process there seems to be times when the update moves very slowly, or even stalls.  How can I successfully deploy to all the nodes?

Solution:
In order to optimize the firmware update process of a large network, it is recommended to do the following:
  1. Increase sample interval of all nodes.  This will ensure that there is not a lot of network traffic.
  2. Update all nodes configured as end nodes.
  3. Power down all end nodes, and update routers.  This prevents end nodes from continuously rejoining the network after their parent router is updated, thus reducing network traffic.
  4. Power on all end nodes once the routers have been updated.
  5. Reset sample intervals to their original state.
