Problem: I would like to set up the hardware of my Software Selectable (XS) NI-CAN PXI card for single wire transmission. How should I do that?
Solution: There are a few steps to follow while setting your PXI-8464 to single wire mode.
- With power off, remove the PXI-8464 from the chassis, change the VBat jumper for the port you are going to use to "Ext". Reinsert the card and power on the chassis.
- Right-click the CAN port in Measurement & Automation Explorer and select Properties. The Port Properties window will appear. Set the transceiver type to Single Wire.
- Wire as follows:
Pin 3 (V-): Wire to the negative/common side of your power supply (e.g. 0V)
Pin 5 (Shield): Wire to ground (not necessarily the same as Pin 3). It is the same if your power supply is earth grounded.
Pin 6 (V- reference): Wire to same location as Pin 3
Pin 7 (CAN_H): Wire to your module's CAN line
Pin 9 (V+): Wire to the positive side of your power supply (e.g. +12V)
You can now use your Software Selectable (XS) NI-CAN card in single wire mode.
