How Can I Read the Inhibit Output Status From the UMI With My Motion Controller? Hardware: Motion Control>>Controllers>>PCI-7334, Motion Control>>Controllers>>PCI-7344
Problem: I am using a National Instruments motion controller with a UMI and a non-NI drive. The UMI combines inhibit signals from several sources to determine the state of the INHOUT lines. I have noticed that the motion controller only has lines for inhibit outputs. How can I read the actual inhibit status of my drive? Solution: The per axis inhibit signal on a National Instruments motion controller is one of the signals that gets combined on the UMI to determine the UMI inhibit output status. Since the inhibit lines from the motion controller are output only, the controller does not know if an inhibit is coming from another source. To determine the actual status of the motor drive, you will need to manually read the INHOUT line by looping it back to a different input on the UMI. The inhibit signal can be measured using four different inputs, depending on which one is not already being used for your application.
