"Error: Can't Create Connection (NMIB is Full)" from Dialog Software While Opening FieldBusPrimary Software: Driver Software>>NI-FBUSPrimary Software Version: 2.3.5 Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A Secondary Software: N/A
Problem: I get an error message when I attempt to use the dialog software to open the FB VFD in a device, "nifGetVfdList on link interface0-0, device DUT failed: Error: Can't create connection (the NMIB is full)", etc. Solution: The NMIB is the Network Management Information Base, which is where the VCRs (connection endpoints) are stored. The host interface card has an NMIB, as does the device. One of these is full; i.e. no more room for VCRs -- that's what the error code means. Normally, clearing the VCRs from the host AND the device would cure this type of problem. This will happen after a long time of operation with a "problematic" field device. You will attempt to connect to the device, and if the connection proceeds to a certain point, the VCR is created. If, at some point, the device then fails to communicate further on this VCR, you can end up creating a new VCR to talk to the device. If the same thing happens again, over and over, for a long period of time, you can see the VCR-full or NMIB-full problem. Normally, you will not see this problem; it has to be a special circumstance of repeated communication failures over a long period of time before you will see this problem.
