One or More Serial Ports Fail Interrupt Test in NI Serial Diagnostics; Windows Continues to Detect New Serial Hardware on Each Boot.

Primary Software: Driver Software>>NI-Serial
Primary Software Version: 1.3
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A
Hardware: Serial

Problem: NI serial boards, including the RS-232 and RS-485 boards, generally share the same base IO address and IRQ. Windows 3.1 and DOS require you to use serial boards with non-shared interrupts. NI serial boards designed for these operating systems require one interrupt for each port.

If one IRQ is required for each port and the correct board is not installed, the hardware may still be detected and some ports may even pass the NI serial diagnostics tests. Typically, however, one or more of the ports will fail the interrupt test in NI serial diagnostics. Knowlegebase 1TRFLAUE contains a list of NI serial boards that use one interrupt per serial port.

Solution: Use NIports to set one interrupt for each port.
