Why Does Citadel Compaction Not Reduce Wasted Space?

Primary Software: Lookout
Primary Software Version: 4.5
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem: I chose to archive a view of my database with the option to "delete data from source database". Using the compaction feature afterwards should have reduced the amount of wasted space, but it did not. This also happens when I delete a run from a VI Logger task.

Solution: There are two likely reasons as to why this is happening:
  1. You have a database with less than a megabyte of actual data. The process of compacting deletes extraneous page files. With a database so small there is only one page file; if you delete it, then you would be deleting all of your data.
  2. You have a database with more than a megabyte of actual data, but you did not delete enough data to free up any page files. If you archive more of the data, you should notice the effects of the compaction feature.
