How Do I Install a PCMCIA-FBUS Card under Windows NT?

Hardware: Industrial Communications>>Fieldbus>>PCMCIA-FBUS

Problem: I am having trouble with the installation a PCMCIA-FBUS card under Windows NT. Do you have any suggestions?

Solution: The PCMCIA-FBUS card is made to work with the default Windows card manager software. If your laptop uses a third-party card manager software, the PCMCIA-FBUS card may not function correctly. We recommend that you uninstall any third-party card manager software and install the default Windows NT card manager software instead.

Also, Windows NT does not have Plug and Play support for PCMCIA cards, which means that you must manually assign resources for your PCMCIA cards. To make this task more difficult, Windows NT does not always show all the resources that are in use by other hardware, so even though you may have selected resources for your PCMCIA card that Windows NT thinks are available, they may not be (which leads to resource conflicts).

See Chapter 2 (Installation and Configuration) of the "Getting Started with Your PCMCIA-FBUS and the NI-FBUS Software" manual (linked below) for troubleshooting steps to follow in the case of resource conflicts. Very often going through these steps, performing them exactly as they appear in the documentation, and in the same order, will result in the card working successfully.
