Why Does My Start-Up Executable Fail to Run When I Reboot My FieldPoint Controller?
Hardware: FieldPoint>>Controllers/Network Modules
Problem: I created a start-up executable using LabVIEW Real-Time, and I downloaded that executable to my FieldPoint controller. The executable runs fine if I target it with my host PC and run it manually. However, the executable does not launch on its own whenever I reboot my FieldPoint controller. What could be causing this problem?
Solution: There are three likely reasons why the executable is not launching whenever you reboot the FieldPoint controller:
- When you initially built the executable, you may not have selected the option to Launch Application at Boot-up. If this option was not selected in the Application Builder while building the executable, you can enable this option retroactively using the following steps:
- Target your Real-Time FieldPoint controller with LabVIEW.
- Navigate to Tools » RT Target Options » RT Target: Miscellaneous.
- Check the box to Launch Application at Boot-Up.
- You may have the Disable VI dip-switch set to on on your FieldPoint controller. If this dip-switch is on, your executable may be trying to launch, but the controller is immediately disabling it. It is important to realize that this dip-switch will effect executables, as well as VIs that are merely targeted to the controller.
- Something may be occurring in your code that is stopping the executable immediately after launching. This could be anything from an error to a false constant wired to the Condition Terminal of a While Loop. Check your code to make sure this is not the case. Be sure to implement proper error handling techniques.
If these suggestions do no resolve the problem, you may be experiencing a larger problem with your FieldPoint system. For example, your FieldPoint controller may be under powered or may be experiencing brown out conditions. Use the links below for more information on these topics.
