Ports for the PCI-232/2 Do Not Show Up Inside of Device Manager

Hardware: Serial>>RS-232>>PCI-232I/2

Problem:
I am using the PCI-232/2 serial hardware with my Windows computer. The serial card gets auto-detected and installed by the operating system, and I can see the listing for the PCI-232/2 but there are no references to the new serial ports under the ports (com & lpt) tree. Why can't I see the ports for this card inside of device manager?

Solution:
Be sure you have downloaded the latest version of NI-Serial that is known to work with your specific setup.

Next, try forcing Windows to recognize the device. This is done by uninstalling the PCI-232/2 from device manager.
  1. Right Click on the reference to the multifunction parent device (PCI-232/2)
  2. Under the multifunction adapters tree click uninstall.
  3. After it is successfully un-installed, click on the actions menu
  4. click on scan for hardware changes
Windows will recognize the PCI-232/2 card installed and will place it back into the multifunction adapters tree and the PCI-232/2 ports under the ports tree.

If the ports do not seem to be properly configured, you will have to manually change them to work with the National Instruments driver.
  1. Right click on the COM port and select properties
  2. Under the driver tab, click on update driver
  3. Choose to manually select the driver to be used
  4. On the main device manager screen, right click on the PCI-232/2 listing and select properties
  5. Click on the resources tab and record which IRQ is assigned to it
  6. Assign this IRQ to the ports that correspond to the PCI device
