Will the Format Disk Option in MAX Format All Partitions on My Dual Boot PXI Controller?

Primary Software: LabVIEW Modules>>Real-Time Module
Primary Software Version: 8.6.1
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A
Hardware: PXI/CompactPCI>>Controllers

Problem:
I have a dual boot PXI controller and I currently have it running LabVIEW Real-Time. If I right click on the target in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX), will it format all partitions on my controller or just the RT partition?

Solution:
Choosing Format Disk on a dual boot PXI controller will format all partitions on that hard drive. If you do this you will have to reinstall Windows and all data will be lost.

If you want to uninstall the software that is installed on the RT operating system, you can use the Add/Remove Software dialog window.

  1. Open Max and find your target under Remote Systems.
  2. Under your target, right click on Software and select Add/Remove Software.
  3. At the bottom of the software installation list, select Uninstall all software.

If you want to do a complete format of the RT partition, you can use one of the RT Disk Utilities in MAX. To use a USB flash drive to do this, follow these steps:

  1. Connect a USB flash drive to your computer. Make sure you create a backup of the contents. They will be erased off the drive.
  2. Open MAX and go to Tools»RT Disk Utilities»Create Desktop PC Utility USB Drive.
  3. Select your USB flash drive and click OK.
  4. When it is finished, connect the USB flash drive to the PXI controller.
  5. Reboot the PXI controller and enter the BIOS. This is usually done by pressing the delete key at the appropriate time during boot up.
  6. In the BIOS, change the boot order to boot from the USB flash drive.
  7. Save changes and exit the BIOS configuration.
  8. The controller should now boot from the USB flash drive and bring you to a menu. Choose the option to Format Hard Disk.
  9. Then choose the option to Reformat the First RT-Compatible Partition on the Drive.
  10. When prompted, type yes to confirm that you want to format the disk.
