Opening and Running a VI automatically When Booting a Computer.

Primary Software: LabVIEW Run-Time Engine
Primary Software Version: 7.1
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: LabVIEW Development Systems>>Full Development System

Problem:
A VI needs to open up automatically and start running when I boot up my computer, without my having to open LabVIEW manually.

Solution:
Follow the steps below to automatically launch a VI at boot-up:
  1. Go to C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 7.1\LabVIEW.exe

  2. Create a shortcut of this exe on your desktop.

  3. Open the properties of this exe, and change the target from C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 7.1\LabVIEW.exe to C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 7.1\LabVIEW.exe - xyz.vi, where xyz.vi is the VI that you want to run on startup.

  4. Copy this particular xyz.vi into your National Instruments folder under LabVIEW 7.1 where the LabVIEW.exe is present.

  5. Open that VI, and go to VI properties.

  6. Under "execution", check the box for "run when opened".

  7. Go to the block diagram and include an option for "Quit LabVIEW when stopped" from Functions>>All Functions>>Application Control>>Exit LabVIEW

  8. Save the VI

  9. Copy the Shortcut of the LabVIEW.exe which is on your desktop to the Startup Folder on C:\Documents and Settings\Desktop\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.

  10. Reboot your computer.
