Retrieving Data from a Citadel Database Without Lookout or the LabVIEW DSC Module Installed
Primary Software: Utility Software>>Citadel ODBC Driver
Primary Software Version: 4.0.1
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A
Problem: I have moved the Citadel database files to a machine where I do not have Lookout or the LabVIEW Datalogging and Supervisory Control (DSC) Module installed. Can I still retrieve data from the database?
Solution: Yes, it is possible to retrieve the data even without Lookout or the LabVIEW DSC Module installed. In order to accomplish this, you will need to install the Citadel Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) driver, which enables other applications to directly retrieve data from Citadel using Structured Query Language (SQL) queries. There are two different procedures to follow in order to install the ODBC driver based on what version of Citadel is being used.
- Citadel 4: To view the Citadel 4 database files, install Logos 4.5 on the machine where the files are residing. The install of Logos will include the Citadel 4 ODBC driver for accessing the database files. At that time, you will be able to query the database with any application that is able to implement SQL query.
Alternatively, you can use the Historical Data Viewer in MAX (Measurement & Automation Explorer) to view the data and even export it to a text file. Refer to the tutorials linked below for details. The Drivers & Updates link will give you the latest Logos 4.5 installer.
- Citadel 5: Citadel 5 is the database used by the LabVIEW DSC 7 module and by Lookout 6. With the redesign of the Citadel 5 database, it is now required to install at least the LabVIEW DSC run-time system onto a machine in order to gain access to the Citadel 5 ODBC driver. Each machine used to view the database files using ODBC would need to contain a LabVIEW DSC run-time system or one of the software packages mentioned below.
Lastly, the DIAdem software package is a powerful, professional software tool to import, analyze, present, and store data. DIAdem connects directly to the Citadel 5 database, therefore this package can be used to quickly set up a query to database files and allow for powerful analyze and rapid development in generating reports.
- Summary
You need one at least of the following software packages installed to use an ODBC interface to a Citadel 5 database:
-LabVIEW DSC Run-time 8.2.1
-LabVIEW DSC 8.2.1
-NI DIAdem
-NI Lookout
