Maximum Transfer Rate of the USB-6501 on the USB 2.0 Bus Interface Hardware: Digital I/O (DIO)>>Static>>USB-6501
Problem: I just purchased a USB-6501 rated for the USB 2.0 bus interface which has maximum speed of 12Mb/s. According to USB standards, USB 1.1 bus interface has a maximum speed of 12Mb/s, whereas USB 2.0 can transfer up to 480 Mb/s. Is the USB-6501 mislabeled? Why is there a discrepancy in the maximum data transfer ratings? Solution: No, the USB-6501 is not mislabeled. It does have a USB 2.0 Full-Speed (12 Mb/s) bus interface. The main reason for the confusion is that the USB 2.0 specification incorporates three speeds: Hi-Speed, Full-Speed and Low-Speed. USB 2.0 Full-Speed and Low-Speed have the same or lower ratings as USB 1.1. USB 1.1 allows a maximum transfer rate of 12Mb/second, which is the same transfer rate for USB 2.0 Full-Speed. That rate is now called 'USB.' Therefore, for transfer rates of up to 480 Mb/s, a device would need to be compatible with the USB 2.0 Hi-Speed bus interface.
