Error Updating NI Circuit Design Suite 10.0 through SUU on Japanese Windows OS

Problem:

I am trying to upgrade my Multisim version 10 on my Japanese operating system but Support and Upgrade Utility (SUU) displays the message:

An error occurred while executing patches: A patch failed to install or was cancelled manually.

What can I do about it?



Solution:

This error (as seen in the image attached) is due to the fact that the Support and Upgrade Utility (SUU), which downloads the latest Multisim patch, requires a specific update for Japanese operating systems. This issue is seen on the Japanese localization of Microsoft Windows 2000, XP, or Vista.

Because the original version 10 did not support Japanese localization, the SUU that ships with the original version 10 will not be able to update your installation with the latest patch. In order to workaround this, you need to download the full 10.0.1 installer manually from the web. This new version supports Japanese localization, as well as official support for Windows Vista and many fixes.

NOTE: Please close any open applications, including Multisim or Ultiboard, before applying any updates. If you disable your antivirus application it will speed up the download and installation processes.

Instructions:

  1. Click here to open the download directory.
  2. Download the appropiate file (~270 MB):
    • Professional Users: NI_Circuit_Design_Suite_10_0_1.exe
    • Educational Users: NI_Circuit_Design_Suite_10_0_1_Educational.exe
    • Student Users: NI_Circuit_Design_Suite_10_0_1_Student.exe
  3. After the download is complete, double-click the downloaded application to start the installer.
  4. Follow the installer instructions.
  5. After the installer finishes, it will prompt you to restart your computer.

You will now have version 10.0.1 installed on your computer.

Version 10.0.1 is also available from the Drivers and Updates section of the National Instruments website. You only need to download the appropiate version:
