Can I Generate a Report for Use with SAMreport and/or FLEXbill from NI Volume License Manager?

Primary Software: Other NI Software>>NI Volume License Manager
Primary Software Version: 1.0
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem:
I would like to enable report logging to view product usage as handled by NI Volume License Manager. Can I enable report logging from NI Volume License Manager?

Solution:
You can enable the report log file to view data from NI Volume License Manager (NI VLM). As the FlexLM End Users Guide states:
The report log file contains feature usage information and is generated by the vendor daemon. However, a vendor daemon does not write report log output by default. Report log output is not human readable and is only used by the SAMreport and FLEXbill products. Therefore, unless you are using either of these two Macrovision products (or intend to use them in the future), there is no reason to enable report logging.

If you would like to turn on the report log file, complete the following steps.
  1. Download the attached zip file found in the Attachments section below.
  2. Unzip the attached file and extract lmswitchr.exe to "C:\Program Files\National Instruments\Shared\License Manager\Bin"
  3. Every time the license server is started (including on system start, if that preference within NI VLM has been checked) OR when the Apply Changes button is pressed, the administrator must run the following command:
    "C:\Program Files\National Instruments\Shared\License Manager\Bin\lmswitchr.exe" nilm "C:\Program Files\National Instruments\Volume License Manager\report.log"
It may help to make a shortcut that runs this command, so that every time you press Apply Changes, you can simply also run the shortcut too. You can also have this run on system start by adding this shortcut to Start»Programs»Startup.

At this time there is no way to have this log append information. If old logs need to be preserved, then the file name needs to change from report.log to a different name for each log file (e.g. report1.log, report2.log, etc. OR report.log, report.log, etc.).

Note: If needed, the names of "report" and "log", and the location of the log can be changed to another name or location. Simply modify the above commands with the new log names or locations.
