Why Does My NI-6516/17 Not Output a Digital High? Hardware: Digital I/O (DIO)>>Isolated>>PCI-6517, Digital I/O (DIO)>>Isolated>>PCI-6516
Problem: I have a NI-6516/17 board for a digital output application. When I test the card with a digital multimeter, the outputs will not output a logic high when set to high in Measurement & Automation Explorer. What is wrong with my card? Solution: The NI-6516/17 are industrial DIO boards and the outputs require an external power supply connected to the VCC pins of the respective output port. For a digital output example, if you are using Port 0 as an output port, you must connect VCC to the positive lead of an external power supply (5-30V DC) and COM (GND) to the negative lead of the power supply. The output will then switch between 0V and the supplied voltage. For the 6516: Connect the positive lead to P6.VCC (pin 5, 14, 28, or 37) Connect the negative lead to P6.GND (pin 19) For the 6517: Connect the positive lead to P6.VCC (pin 19) Connect the negative lead to P6.GND (pin 5, 14, 28, or 37) For more information on using the NI-6516/17, consult the product manuals linked below.
