My USB-232/X or USB-485/X Product Stops Powering On After Months of Working Correctly
Hardware: Serial>>RS-485>>USB-485/2, Serial>>RS-232>>USB-232/2, Serial>>RS-232>>USB-232/4
Problem:
I have a USB-232/X or USB-485/X interface that has been working correctly for months. Now, when I plug the interface to any computer using a USB cable, the LEDs on the interface never turn on and nothing new is detected in Device Manager. Is there a problem with my USB-232/X or USB-485/X product?
Solution:
The first step is to make sure the USB-232/X or USB-485/x is actually the problem in your setup.
- Verify that the computer's USB port works with other USB devices
- Verify that the USB cable is not damaged and allows other USB devices to connect to a computer
- Verify that NI-Serial is correctly installed on the computer
If the USB-232/X or USB-485/X is shown to be the problem, the USB-232/X or USB-485/X may have been damaged. The product has a fuse on the USB voltage line that prevents over-current from damaging the product. The fuse is internal to the USB-232/X or USB-485/X, so it must be returned for repair. Please
contact National Instruments and ask to speak with an RMA coordinator.
To prevent this type of problem from happening again, follow these guidelines.
- Connect the USB-232/X or USB-485/X to the computer before connecting any instruments
- Connect the USB-232/X or USB-485/X to the computer before powering on any instruments
- Limit the use of instruments that use USB-232/X or USB-485/X serial ports for power
