Does the SCXI-1192 Use Make Before Break or Break Before Make Switching Contact?

Hardware: Switches

Problem: I have an SCXI-1160, -1161, -1163R, -1190, or -1192 and I need to know what method of switching contact the module has: make before break or break before make.

Solution: Break before make is a connection option that only applies to switches involved in a scanning operation. None of the SCXI-119X or -116X modules can scan. The only way to operate these switches is by using connect or individual relay control. The user then decides which relay to close and therefore can close one relay before opening the previous one.

There is an explanation of scan mode in the attribute list in NI-SWITCH help and there is also a discussion on scan mode in the NI-SWITCH software user manual on page 5-6.

Value Description
No Action (0)No implicit action on connections when scanning.
Break Before Make (1)When scanning, the switch module breaks existing connections before making new connections.
Break After Make (2)When scanning, the switch module breaks existing connections after making new connections.

SCAN MODE: This attribute specifies what happens to existing connections when changing from one scan list entry to another. Many switch modules support only one of the possible values. In such cases, this attribute serves as an indicator of the behavior of the module.
