"Unexpected Data Response Length" Message in Lookout or IA OPC Servers

Problem: When using Lookout or Lookout Protocol Drivers (Industrial Automation OPC Servers) to communicate with a external device (PLC) through the serial port, I will sometimes receive the error "unexpected data response length." What can I do to eliminate this error?

Solution: This message indicates that the data received in the specified time is not the length expected. Assuming that the PLC is communicating properly, you can eliminate this error by increasing the serial port receive gap from the default value of 20. This setting can be accessed under the Options>>Serial Ports menu item.
