Error -32736 When Running an Application That Uses the NI-VXI API

Primary Software: Driver Software>>NI-VXI/VISA
Primary Software Version: 3.1
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem:
I am running an application that uses the VXI API, and I have multiple chassis (VXI0, VXI1, etc) configured. When I talk to the modules in VXI0, everything works fine. However, if I try to talk to a module in a chassis other than VXI0, I get  Error -32736. How do I get rid of this error?

Solution:
Using the VXI API requires that the VXI devices be configured to use the VXI 2.0 emulation layer. By default, this layer is set to VXI0, which is why you don't get an error when you talk to the modules in that chassis. To communicate with modules in chassis other than VXI0, you will need to set the emulation layer to the chassis you want to communicate with. To do this, follow the steps below:
  1. Launch Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX), and navigate to Tools» NI-VXI» VXI Options
  2. In the dialog box that opens, select the chassis you want to talk to from the "Board Name" drop-down menu
  3. Click the "OK" button, and you should now be able to talk to the chassis you selected
Note that this will only support communicating with one chassis at a time, and you will have to change the emulation layer each time you want to communicate with a different chassis. National Instruments recommends that you use the NI-VISA API instead of the NI-VXI API, as NI-VISA supports communicating with multiple chassis. See the related link for more information on NI-VISA.
