How Much Power Can the SC-2062 Handle?

Hardware: Signal Conditioning Other>>SC Digital Accessories

Problem: Can the SC-2062 handle 100 Volts DC at 3 Amps? Our specification says 30 Volts DC maximum at 6 Amps. It seems to be able to handle more AC power. What is the limitation?

Solution: No, the SC-2062 cannot handle 100V DC at 3 Amps. The reason the DC rating is lower than the AC voltage specification is that when you open or close the relay, any resulting arcing is going to finish for an AC signal when the AC signal crosses 0 Volts. With DC voltages, the arcing can carry on for longer periods of time. So the arcing during open/close events stays on longer, thus reducing the life of the relays considerably. How much reduction? This is not specified.
