PXI M Series That Can Be Used to Control SCXI in a PXI/SCXI Combo Chassis

Hardware: PXI/CompactPCI>>Chassis>>PXI-1050, PXI/CompactPCI>>Chassis>>PXI-1052

Problem:
Which PXI M Series devices can be used to control the SCXI side of a PXI/SCXI Combination Chassis?

Solution:
All PXI M Series devices are now sold with the hybrid connector so that they will work in the PXI Express chassis. However, some PXI M Series are still sold with the standard PXI connector so that they can control the SCXI portion of a PXI/SCXI Combination Chassis such as the PXI-1050 or 1052. The devices that will communicate with a PXI/SCXI Combination Chassis are:
  • PXI-6221 (P/N: 779113-01)
  • PXI-6229 (P/N: 779115-01)
  • PXI-6251 (P/N: 779117-01)
  • PXI-6259 (P/N: 779119-01)
  • PXI-6289 (P/N: 779123-01)
On the product page for each of these devices, two part numbers are given. One part number is for a version that will work in both a PXI Express and PXI Chassis. The other part number is for a version that can control SCXI in a PXI/SCXI Combination Chassis (the part numbers listed above). Both versions are clearly marked on the product page.

All other PXI M Series, like the PXI-6220, are only sold with the hybrid connector and cannot be used to control SCXI in a PXI/SCXI Combination Chassis.

PXI M Series began shipping with the hybrid connector on 2/28/2006, so boards received before this time will be able to control SCXI in a Combination Chassis. If there are doubts as to which version you have, the hybrid connector has a gap in it, while the version that can control SCXI does not, and has a "full length" connector.
