I have installed National Instruments software that did not officially support Windows Vista on my Windows Vista computer. I would now like to install the officially supported versions, however running the latest installer instructs me to first uninstall previous versions of NI software. How do I uninstall the unsupported software?

Complete the following steps to uninstall all unsupported NI software:

Note: NI-Serial users should refer to KnowledgeBase 46L9FRG2 before completing the following steps.
  1. Uninstall all National Instruments software by navigating to:
    Start » Control Panel » Programs » Uninstall a Program » National Instruments Software » Remove
  2. Uninstall all LEGO Mindstorms NXT software and drivers (there may be a few files) by navigating to:
    Start » Control Panel » Programs » Uninstall a Program » LEGO Mindstorms NXT Software » Remove
  3. Reboot your computer.
  4. Run the attached vistaCleanupTool.exe.
  5. Reboot your computer.
You can now install National Instruments software that officially supports Windows Vista

If you receive an error similar to Failed to remove oemXX.inf from the driver store, inf is in use when running vistaCleanupTool.exe, complete the following steps:

  1. Select OK, and shutdown the machine.
  2. Remove all NI hardware, including any Intel Pro 1000 NIC cards that may be associated with a GigE Vision driver.
  3. Turn on your computer and rerun vistaCleanUpTool.exe
If you previously uninstalled all unsupported NI software and then installed the officially supported versions without first running vistaCleanupTool.exe, complete the following steps:
  1. Uninstall all NI software.
  2. Reboot your computer.
  3. Run the attached vistaCleanupTool.exe
  4. Reboot your computer.
  5. You can now reinstall the officially supported versions.
Note:  The cleanup tool will not run on Windows Vista x64 because it should not be necessary.  Unsupported software should be removed by uninstalling the software normally on Windows Vista x64.
