ENET-232 and ENET-485 COM Port Assignments Hardware: Serial>>RS-232
Problem: Can I make one of the COM ports from my ENET-232 or ENET-485 box into COM1 on my Windows XP, Windows 2000 or Windows NT machine? Solution: You can change the COM number to any system-valid designation in Windows 2000 or Windows NT. COM1 will be treated the same as any other port, but you will need to rename the original COM1 to another port number. All National Instruments' serial ports, whether on serial cards or ethernet boxes, can be renamed as long as no other port has the same number. In Windows NT, you can modify COM ports by going to Start » Settings » Control Panel » NI Ports. Here you can select the COM ports from a pull down menu. In Windows 2000 and Windows XP, go to Start » Settings » Control Panel » System » Hardware » Device Manager. Under "Ports," select the port you would like to change and open the "Properties" dialog box by right-clicking on that port. Go to Port Settings » Advanced and select the COM port number to assign it to the physical port. After making each change, you will need to reboot your system.
