Why Can't I Create a Disconnected License from VLM 2.0?

Primary Software: Other NI Software>>NI Volume License Manager
Primary Software Version: 2.0
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem: When I create a disconnected license in VLM 2.0, I receive errors. How can I solve this issue?

Solution: Disconnected License File Issue #1:
Problem: When I create a disconnected license in VLM 2.0, after I save the disconnected license file VLM 2.0 will abruptly close. The disconnected license file is created, but it doesn't work. This also happens if I try to create a home license file. When VLM 2.0, closes you will see typical general application errors such as:
  • The instruction at "XXXXXX" referenced memory at "XXXXXXXX". The memory could not be "read"
  • VLM encountered an error. Do you want to send this to Microsoft?
Solution: This has been fixed by the patch linked in the Related Links section below. You can download the patch and install it without uninstalling your current version. It will overwrite the current version. The fixed version is NI VLM 2.0.0.75.

Disconnected License File Issue #2:
Problem:
When I right-click on the computer from NI Volume License Manager and choose Disconnect, I can select an expiration date, but when I click OK, nothing happens

Solution:
If your computer name contains certain special characters, the computer name itself is probably the problem. Computer names that contain the following characters cannot create disconnected licenses because those characters are not valid file name characters. By default, disconnected license file names start with the computer name. To fix this, rename the computer in NI Volume License Manager. Create the disconnected license. Rename the computer back to the original computer name. The actual disconnected license is not linked to the computer name. Rather, it is linked to the computer ID, which is independent of the computer name.
" : < | (respectively, quotes, colon, less than, and pipe)
Ensure that the computer name you have entered is not one of the above characters.

Disconnected License File Issue #3:
Problem:
When I try to disconnect a license, I get an error that states "
This computer has no permissions that can exist in a disconnected license".
Solution: Currently, your NI VLM server does not have any computers configured. For more information, consult KnowledgeBase 3V6IER8M (see related links section below).
