What Does National Instruments Consider an Unique Activation?

Problem:
I have a serial number that can be used to active multiple products, such as a Developer Suite serial number. I have received emails similar to the following:

Thank you for choosing National Instruments products. If your product is not yet activated, use the activation code listed below. Please save the activation code in case you need to reactivate your product on the same computer.
Product: LabVIEW Professional Development System Version: 8.0
Activation Code: XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX
The activation code(s) above were generated with the following serial number and for the following computer:
Serial Number: XXXXXXXXX
Computer ID: XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX
This serial number has been used to generate activation codes for 3 different computer(s).

What does NI count as an activation?

Solution:
National Instruments considers an activation the pairing of a single computer and a unique product.
For serial numbers that pertain to multiple products (i.e. Developer Suite), the serial number can activate each product in the package. This means that you can activate two different products (i.e. LabWindows/CVI and LabVIEW) with the same serial number on different computers. This will count as two activations.

Conversely, if you activate multiple unique products on a single machine, that will also count as 2 activations.
