I Cannot Use GPIB or VISA Classes in Measurement Studio 7.0

Primary Software: Measurement Studio>>Enterprise Edition (Full Development System)
Primary Software Version: 7.0
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: Measurement Studio>>Professional Edition (Base Package), Measurement Studio>>Standard Edition (Starter Kit), Driver Software>>NI-488.2, Driver Software>>NI-VISA

Problem:
I have Visual Studio .NET and Measurement Studio 7.0 are installed, but the GPIB and VISA namespaces are not added when I create a Measurement Studio project, and I cannot add them manually.  How do I fix this?

Solution:
The GPIB and/or VISA language interfaces for .NET are not installed. Note that this can occur even if NI-VISA or NI-488.2 is installed. To resolve the problem, install the driver CD that ships with Measurement Studio after you install Measurement Studio.

To use VISA, you must check one or both of the following options in the installer for the driver CD:
  • NI-VISA»Development Support»Measurement Studio 7.0 Visual C++ Support
  • NI-VISA»Development Support».NET Languages Support
To use GPIB, you must check one or both of the following options:
  • NI-488.2»Language Support»Measurement Studio 7.0 Visual C++ Support
  • NI-488.2»Language Support».NET Languages Support
If you are trying to enable the .NET Language Support but cannot choose the option, it is likely that you have a version of NI-488.2 installed that is different from the one on the driver CD, which prevents the language support from installing. For instance, you will see the screenshot below if you a newer version of NI-488.2 installed on the system. The green check marks indicate that you have a newer version than the one on the driver CD. The red marks indicate that you will be unable to install those particular features.

The .NET language support is a feature of the Driver CD and is not included with any of the NI-488.2 stand-alone installers. Thus, you need the Driver CD to detect either that you have no NI-488.2 version installed or that you have exactly the NI-488.2 version that comes with the Driver CD.

To resolve this specific problem, do the following:
  1. Exit the driver CD installation.
  2. Check the NI-488.2 driver version in Add/Remove Programs (found in Start»Settings»Control Panel).
  3. Uninstall NI-488.2 using Add/Remove Programs.
  4. Reboot the system.
  5. Run the driver CD installation again.
