Cannot Communicate with PCI-7041 Board Using MAX

Primary Software: LabVIEW Modules>>Real-Time Module
Primary Software Version: 7.0
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software:

Problem: I have a PCI-7041 board that I cannot communicate with using MAX. When I install the board, it shows up under Devices and Interfaces in MAX. However, in the Software tab, the Version on Remote Device column says that it cannot communicate with the remote device. Also, when I try to reboot the board from MAX, it gives me an error saying that communication failed.

How can I fix this situation? I am using a Dell Dimension 4600 computer.

Solution: There are several reasons why you may not be able to communicate with your board properly. Some basic solutions and troubleshooting steps are listed below:
  • Make sure all software, drivers, etc are installed properly. Try reinstalling all related software from start.
  • Insert the board into another slot of your computer. Try using slot 1 (usually the PCI slot closest to the processor) and test the board.
  • Test the board in another computer of different make and model. If the board works in a different computer, we know that the board is functioning properly.
  • On the computer that is not functioning properly, try to restart the RT Proxy service. Go to Start»Settings»Control Panel»Administrative Tools»Services. Then locate niRTProxy from the list of services on the computer. Right-click on it and Stop the service. Then right-click on it again and Start it again.
  • If restarting the RT Proxy service does not help, check and see if your computer has Intel's Hyperthreading technology (as many new PCs do). If you do have Hyperthreading technology, you need to disable it. You can disable it by editing the BIOS. Please refer to your computers manual for details on how to edit the BIOS.

The above solutions should eliminate any communication issues you may be having using the PCI-7041 device.
