Why Do I See Non-National Instruments License Servers in NI License Manager (NILM)?

Primary Software: Other NI Software>>NI License Manager
Primary Software Version: 3.1
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem:
When I open NI License Manager I see several servers listed on the left-hand side, each listed with a red 'X' next to it. None of these servers have NI software installed. Why are they appearing?

Solution:
NI License Manager is based on FLEXnet, the new version of FLEXlm which is a licensing technology from Macrovision. If you have any other FLEXnet license servers running on your machine or other software configured to connect to a FLEXnet server, it is possible that License Manager is checking those FLEXnet license servers for National Instruments licenses.

Since NI License Manager is based on FLEXnet, it will check any license servers configured within NI License Manager and any license servers configured for use with FLEXnet. This could include license servers configured for other non-NI software applications that are also based on FLEXnet.

Note that if you have many servers configured, it may take longer than normal for your client software to launch. The client software will check each of the servers configured on the client computer. If you want to reduce your software launch times, consult KnowledgeBase 3WOFUR6E in the related links section below.
