What is DOS Compatibility Mode in Windows 95 and How Does One Get Rid of It?Primary Software: Driver Software>>NI-VXI/VISAPrimary Software Version: 1.0 Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A Secondary Software: N/A Hardware: VXI/VME/MXI>>VXI Controllers>>VXIpc-850
Problem: In the Device Manager, you may see that the IDE drivers for the VXI embedded 850 under Windows 95 show that it is using DOS compatibility mode drivers. Solution: The device manager MUST list a Generic IDE Disk, Type XX under the Disk Drives section, where XX is the User defined HD (47 on the 850). Once this is listed, Windows 95 will automatically enable 32-bit drivers. One needs to go into the CMOS and list the HD as a User Type drive. After this, the Device Manager will have the Generic IDE Disk listed and use 32-bit drivers. For the 850, the User Defined settings are 1571-16-63 for Cyl, Hd, and Sectors for a size of 773MB.
