What Hardware Do I Need to Get Started with FOUNDATION Fieldbus?

Primary Software: Driver Software>>NI-FBUS
Primary Software Version: 2.3.5
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A
Hardware: FieldPoint>>Controllers/Network Modules>>FP-3000, Industrial Communications>>Fieldbus>>PCMCIA-FBUS/2 Series 2, Industrial Communications>>Fieldbus>>PCMCIA-FBUS/2, Industrial Communications>>Fieldbus>>PCMCIA-FBUS Series 2, Industrial Communications>>Fieldbus>>PCMCIA-FBUS, Industrial Communications>>Fieldbus>>AT-FBUS/2, Industrial Communications>>Fieldbus>>AT-FBUS, Industrial Communications>>Fieldbus>>PCI-FBUS/2, Industrial Communications>>Fieldbus>>PCI-FBUS, FieldPoint>>Controllers/Network Modules>>FP-3000, Industrial Communications>>Fieldbus>>FBUS-HSE/H1

Problem: I am not familiar with Fieldbus hardware or software. What is the bare minimum setup that I need, to get started?

Solution:
The bare minimum hardware configuration requires four components:
  1. Configuration software. NI-Fbus Configurator comes with the interface card.
  2. Fieldbus interface card. Use AT-FBUS (777281-01) or the PCMCIA-FBUS (777282-01) with a one port cable (183809-01) or a two port cable (183904-01). The interface provides the hardware link between the computer and the Fieldbus network.
  3. Fieldbus device. Use an FP-3000 (777833-01) or a 3rd party device.
  4. Fieldbus network. The minimum Fieldbus network consists of a cable (connecting the interface card to the device) and terminating resistors and/or capacitors.
See the NI Developer Zone tutorial on Building Your Own Terminators for the Network for more information on terminators. There is also a great deal of information available in the Fieldbus Resource Library.
