Resolving the "Unable to Test Chassis at This Time" Error

Hardware: SCXI>>Chassis>>SCXI-1000, SCXI>>Chassis>>SCXI-1000DC, SCXI>>Chassis>>SCXI-1001

Problem: When I try to test my SCXI system, I get the error message, "Unable to test chassis at this time." What could be the cause for this error and how can I resolve it?

Solution: This error most often occurs when there is no communicating module specified for the SCXI system. The "communicating module" is the module that is actually cabled to the DAQ card, and there must always be a communicating module specified for an SCXI system to function properly. To configure a module as the communicating module, follow the process below:

Steps if using Traditional NI-DAQ
  1. Click the plus sign next to the SXCI Chassis in Measurement & Automation Explorer.
  2. Right click on the module that is cabled to the DAQ card.
  3. Select "Properties".
  4. Select the cabled DAQ card in the "Connected to" drop-down menu.
  5. Make sure the "This device will control the chassis" box is checked.
Steps if using NI-DAQmx
  1. Go to the Chassis Configurator by right-clicking the chassis in Measurement & Automation Explorer and by selecting "Properties"
  2. Find the module that is cabled to the DAQ card and select "Details"
  3. Select the "Cabling" tab and choose the DAQ card to which the module is cabled from the drop-down menu beneath "Which device connects to this module?"
