Licensing for Remote Execution of TestStand Sequences

Primary Software: TestStand
Primary Software Version: 3.5
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem:

I created a TestStand sequence that runs on a remote computer using the Remote Execution feature of TestStand. What licenses should I purchase to run my test program?

Solution:

Each computer that runs a TestStand sequence will need a license. With Remote Execution, two computers are executing TestStand sequences: one on the initial computer and one on the remote computer. Hence two licenses are needed (see the links below for additional information on licensing options).

It is possible to execute a remote sequence, where the remote sequence exists on a machine with only the TestStand Base Deployment Engine installed. In this case, the developer must:

  1. Manually open up the TestExec.ini file located in the teststand\Cfg directory. Add the line EnableRemoteExecution = Bool to the [DEF, Config] section. Next, add the line EnableRemoteExecution = True to the [Config] section.
  2. Follow the procedure outlined in the TestStand Reference Manual, starting on page 5-19. The manual will step through configuring several Distributed COM (DCOM) settings on the remote execution machine, as well as setting up the Windows Firewall correctly.

Refer to the links below for information regarding the types of licenses available.
