Solution: You can disable NI Update Service through its preferences or by using a registry key. Disabling Via Preferences You can disable NI Update Service in the "Preferences" dialog on the "System Preferences" tab. You may be prompted to elevate if you are running on Windows Vista. If you disable using the preferences, anyone with administrator access to the machine can re-enable NI Update Service using this same dialogue:
Disabling Via a Registry Key To disable NI Update Service using the registry, create a new String Value in HKLM/Software/National Instruments/Update Service/CurrentVersion with the name of AdminDisable and set the Data to "true":
If the user launches NI Update Service, they will be able to manually check for updates. However, they will not be able to install the updates using NI Update Service. If you create this key prior to installation, NI Update Service messages will not appear after installation. If you disable using the registry key, only users that are aware of the registry key and have permissions to edit the key can enable NI Update Service.
