PXI-8108 ExpressCard Devices Not Shown in System Tray in Vista

Hardware: PXI/CompactPCI>>Controllers>>PXI-8108

Problem:
The PXI-8108 ExpressCard is not shown in the System Tray under Windows Vista. This means that a safe eject cannot be performed. ExpressCard devices can either use PCIe signals or USB signals. USB based ExpressCard devices will show up correctly in the System Tray while PCIe devices will not. This is only in Windows Vista. All ExpressCard devices show up correctly in Windows XP.

Solution:
There are two solutions to this issue :
  • Manually un-install the device from Device Manager before ejecting the device.
    1. Go to My Computer ยป View System Information
    2. Left-click on the Hardware tab
    3. Left-Click on Device Manager
    4. Right-click on the PXI-8108 card
    5. Left-click Un-install
  • Perform an un-safe eject. Remove the controller from the PXI chassis once the chassis is powered off.
